The Chess Club is open to all students grades 4- 8 and takes place after school every
Tuesday 3:45 – 4:45. Mr.Tom Jandernoa and Mr. Jim Ryan are the Chess Club Coach/Coordinators.
Each meeting will begin with a problem to solve and a short lesson followed by chess play. Chess is one of the oldest and most challenging games. Remarkably, the game has also proven to be an invaluable educational aide. Through the game of chess, children learn the analytical and disciplined thinking skills which are useful in most other academic and life pursuits.
More than any other game, chess has the potential to transform a child. Chess can become a student's driving force, helping him/her in every aspect of critical thinking development. Chess is also extremely beneficial in raising self-esteem, teaching determination, self-motivation and sportsmanship. It's one of the few positive in-school and extra-curricular activities for students of all ages and from all backgrounds. Chess is the one great equalizer in which anyone with determination to succeed can excel.
