Mr. David Skeels, Music

EDUCATIONAL BACKGROUND:  I stated my college experience at Lansing Community College and completed an associates degree in Fine Arts. I have received two degrees at Central Michigan University.  While working on my undergrad degree, I marched with the Marching Chips, played in concert and symphonic bands,  and was in the Professional Music Fraternity - Phi Mu Alpha Sinfonia.  My bachelor degree focused on instrumental music, and my Master's Degree had a focus on general and vocal music.  My major instrument is the saxophone.

I am continuing my education at CMU, and possibly Michigan State University in the future.

CAREER EXPERIENCE:  I started as substitute teacher in the 80’s and 90’s.  For a period of eleven years I worked for Marshall Music in Lansing as a Fitter and Tester.  During that time I served as assistant to the band director at Holt Middle School, Elementary General Music/Band Director at St. Stephens School in Saginaw Michigan, and Assistant Band Director at Chesaning High School.  20 plus years have passed since I started teaching at Pewamo Elementary.  My current teaching experience is at four schools.  All giving me different and enjoyable experiences.  These schools are St. Patrick School, Pewamo-Westphalia Elementary, St. Joseph School and St. Mary’s School.

OTHER EXPERIENCES:  I have played in various organizations in the past: “Lansing Concert Band”, “The Pete Vanderwalls “Sounds Of Swing” Big Band” (40 Years), Don Proko’s Big Band”, “A Love Supreme”, and “Straight Ahead.”  And a few short experiences with other bands.

I have felt very welcome since last year when I taught Technology.  Now that I am Teaching (Music) my Forte, the feeling is like being at home!
